'While we wait the Horses leave ' - Belgrave St Ives 'Mixed winter show' 29.11.20 - 01.01.21
This painting is about the idea of walking within the countryside and leaving a part of yourself within that place . The Animal represents the natural world. Where as the female walking is the figure in which is about to be left in the field as a memory . This was made through the lockdown in 2020 and came about through taking walks past a cemetery near where I live . The figure is not destined for death , but certainly is questioning the role she plays within Nature and how one is affected by nostalgia and memory. Which during the time I associated with the cemetery. I took a lot of time with this painting trying to figure out the Horses relationship to the figure and why it came about without much hesitation whilst painting .I think simply , I would often see horses in the fields during the lockdown and they symbolised freedom . They are Beautiful and destroyed the anxiety surrounding the world during this time .
